Cyriel Dessers' dramatic goal in the 94th minute helped Rangers secure an important 1-1 draw with Dynamo Kyiv in their Champions League qualifier.
This result was vital after Rangers' goalless draw in the Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts. The tie is now evenly balanced ahead of next week's second leg in Glasgow.
Dynamo, who recently beat Partizan Belgrade 9-2, scored first through Andriy Yarmolenko. Rangers had chances from Tom Lawrence and Ross McCausland but couldn't convert.
With time running out, Dessers scored from Vaclav Cerney's cross, which could be a crucial goal in Poland.
The winner of this tie will face either RB Salzburg or FC Twente for a place in this season's Champions League group stage.
Disappointment to Delight
Philippe Clement is rebuilding the team at Ibrox, and Champions League money is crucial. Rangers need improvement, but the draw is a positive step.
Rangers started well with efforts from Lawrence and Dessers, both saved by Dynamo's goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan.
At the other end, Vladyslav Vanat scored, but it was ruled offside after Jack Butland spilled a shot. Rangers' McCausland hit the post, and Butland saved another shot from Oleksandr Pikhalyonok.
A mistake by Ridvan Yilmaz led to Dynamo's goal. He lost possession, and Vanat crossed for Yarmolenko to score from close range.
Just before halftime, Dessers missed a header from close range but was offside.
In the second half, new signing Jefte replaced Scott Wright. His cross found Dessers, whose header was saved by Bushchan.
New player Cerny replaced McCausland, and the game continued to be back-and-forth. Rangers finished strongly, and Dessers scored at the front post from Cerny's cross.
Clement 'Satisfied' with Draw
Rangers manager Philippe Clement said:
"Dynamo is a strong team, as shown in their 9-2 win over Partizan. Our players are making progress, and I'm satisfied with how they are reacting. We can improve more, and we will work on that this week. We have a league game too. Dynamo had a free weekend before this match and struggled physically at the end. I hope our fans support us loudly next week to help us qualify."
VAR Officials Changed After Reports of Arrests
UEFA replaced two officials for the Champions League qualifier first leg due to reports of improper behavior. VAR Bartosz Frankowski and assistant Tomasz Musial were removed, with Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Pawel Malec taking their places.
Reports in Poland said Frankowski and Musial were arrested for being drunk and carrying a street sign. The incident happened in Poland, where the game was played, as Kyiv cannot play matches in Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict.
